A POPULAR Lichfield puss has passed on to moggie heaven.

Spike the cat lived with her owner Elaine Price in Levetts Fields for nearly nine years and rapidly became something of a 'celebrity' in the street.

"Many people use the route to access the city centre and Spike greeted everyone warmly," said Mrs Price.

"Lots of people spent a few minutes enjoying her company.

"Spike would be stroked by adults and children alike and then everyone would carry on their journey with a smile on their face."

Sadly the striking black cat with time for everyone died in June and her owners now want to relay the news to all those who petted her.

"Spike became quite a celebrity in the street and we would like to let people know as she will be greatly missed," added Mrs Price.

"During the winter when we were at work she would scratch on the Citizens Advice Bureau door and be let in for the day where she would be pampered.

"One night she didn't come home and the next morning, after leafleting the street, she appeared having been locked in the CAB all night.

"It was near Christmas and we then received a Christmas card addressed to 'Spike and family'."
