New home for abandoned cat

A CAT found abandoned in a ditch in Lichfield has been re-homed thanks to the RSPCA and staff at a city vet's.

Staff at Grange Hill Veterinary Centre were shocked to discover the animal had been found shut inside a basket on one of the hottest days in June, without any food or water.

"Had he not been rescued the cat would have died from dehydration," said head veterinary nurse Natalie Ward.

"It's shocking that someone could just leave their pet by the side of the road with no care whether he would live or die."

The cat, named 'Mog', was spotted by a member of the public at the roadside while they were driving along Cappers Lane in Whittington.

They immediately took him to the vet where he was treated for a cat bite abscess and a severe flea infestation.

"Mog's health problems are minor, simple and relatively low cost to treat," added Natalie.

"There is absolutely no excuse for abandoning your pet – there are always people out there who can help."

As with all stray and abandoned animals, Mog was scanned and found to have a microchip which revealed he originally lived in Hull.

But all attempts to contact the registered owners failed.

RSPCA inspectors, who became involved when the practice reported the cat abandoned, have since found Mog a new home.
