I too have heard the horn of these scrap metal merchants. The first time was on a Sunday, and I remember feeling grateful that I do not have to work on Sundays to make ends meet.
These people are only trying to earn an honest living, and as is pointed out by Elizabeth Jones on the letters page of the same issue of your newspaper, they are providing a useful recycling service.
Tolerance is an essential component of any successful society.
The choice is between putting up with the occasional sound of a horn for the residents of Lichfield, or the scrap metal merchants having less business because they are unable to advertise their presence.
Is hearing the horn really so much to ask?
Not to be able to sound their horn would have a very large impact on the ability of the scrap metal merchants to earn a living.
It is quite right and proper that the council cannot stop the sounding of the horn.
